Three Great Eggnog Recipes
Eggnog is one of the most delicious parts about the Christmas season. While the traditional version of the drink is well known, there are some other variations for people with different considerations. Take these unusual recipes to have the same great taste for everyone.
Traditional Eggnog
Traditional eggnog recipe is very basic and requires eggs, sugar, salt, vanilla, nutmeg, and milk. Beat the eggs and mix all the ingredients. Add some brandy inside, and you have the original eggnog recipe that you know from childhood.
Alcohol-free Eggnog
If you are treating the whole family with the recipe, a non-alcoholic eggnog is for you. It is much fresher to prepare it at home than buy it from the store. To prepare the recipe, have 6 large eggs, 2 egg yolks, 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 4 cups of milk, 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, 1/2 tablespoon grated nutmeg, 2/4 cup whipped cream, and some grated nutmeg to taste.
Combine the eggs, yolks, sugar, and salt in a large pan, and whisk it. While whisking the mixture, pour the milk slowly inside. Turn the burner on to the lowest heat setting. Place the pan on it, and mix it until the mixture becomes thick enough to create a white coat on a back of a spoon. It could take about an hour to do so. Strain the mixture, and leave out any bits of unmixed egg. Add the vanilla and nutmeg while stirring. Refrigerate afterward. Before drinking the concoction, add whip cream on top, and mix it with the rest of the drink.
Vegan Eggnog
For vegans, there is an eggnog that has no eggs inside. To make this alternative, there will be needed 21 ounces of firm tofu, 2 cups of soymilk, 2/3 cups of brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 cup of cold water, 1 cup of rum or brandy, 4 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, ice cubes, and nutmeg. Use the blender to mix the tofu, soymilk, sugar, and salt. Scrape into a large pitcher, and add the rum or brandy and the vanilla. Mix well and refrigerate. The nutmeg can be sprinkled on top, and ice cubes can be added to the mixture to make it more refreshing.
